First I give each child a sight word card and have them read it to me. Then, they are to dump the corresponding cup of letters to spell the word.
Next, I have them "point and spell" the word, naming the sight word at the end. Then, I take the card away and mix up their letters so that they can spell it again, this time on their own.
Finally, I have them put the letters back in the cup and write the word on the dry erase board. We repeat this with about 5-6 words during a center's time. Like I said, nothing fancy, but they enjoy it and it is a great review!
I hope that everyone is having a Happy Thursday!

It's nothing fancy, but if it works, it works. Sometimes we don't need fancy, just the basics and we tend to forget that in this technological age.
This post came just in time for my team and I because our kids are struggling with sight words. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yes! I love this type of activity, but lately I have been caught up in all of the blogging paperwork and I have forgotten that practice does not need to be cute and thematic all of the time.
My graphics account is huge this year and I have gone through much more paper and ink at home as well. Great practice for your students! Thank you for sharing and reminding me that making and breaking words is very powerful!
Thanks ladies! It felt good to do something that was more "hands on," yet was great review for the kids! It was a great reminder to me too!
